As an avid enthusiast of the outdoors, I was drawn to landscape architecture because of my passion for making the built environment more livable and vibrant by preserving and integrating nature into our cities, creating a sense of place and community, and providing safe options for pedestrian, bicycle, and transit travel. My work is noteworthy for the use of native plants and local materials, with an emphasis on plantings that attract pollinators and birds. I bring experience and creativity to each design project, along with a commitment to environmental sustainability. I am a creative problem solver, handling site planning and grading challenges common to the mountains of Western North Carolina.
Experience working in both the private and public sector has provided me with a broad design and planning background. I have been employed by the Asheville Planning Department and been a consultant on numerous projects with the City of Asheville, Buncombe County, and other municipalities, making me proficient at guiding commercial and residential development projects through the design review and permit process.
Asheville has been my home since since 1990 after receiving my Masters of Landscape Architecture from the University of Washington in Seattle and my undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado. Volunteering in the local community is a core value and I am currrently a board member of Connect Buncombe as well as Wild Ones. I am also the past chair of the Asheville Greenways Committee and served on the City of Asheville Multimodal Transportation Commission for six years, in addition to other volunteer boards.
