Mountain Air Community

A landscape plan was developed to rejuvenate the existing plantings at the visitor center, gatehouse islands, parking area, and along a creek.   Work included assessing existing plants for health and appropriateness and developing a planting plan incorporating indigenous plants for the mountain region.

Olivette Riverside Community Streetscape Plan

This new planned ‘agrihood’ needed landscape improvements at the main entrance and at key intersections to welcome prospective homeowners and new residents.  Features include a stone retaining wall with plantings on the steep slope, at the entry sign and along the road, a welcome area with parking and informational signage, and bioretention island

Warren Wilson College Educational Wetland

MWLA coordinated with faculty and stormwater consultant on the design of an educational stormwater wetland with associated pathway, seating area, and signage. A detailed planting plan featuring wetland plants was developed and installed by the college landscape crew. Plan includes area for a future outdoor classroom and a small arboretum of native trees and shrubs.

Campbell Pediatric Dentistry

The project involved navigating through the City of Asheville’s approval process for a Conditional Rezoning as well as zoning and grading permits to redevelop the site. The site plan included the renovated building, new parking areas, accessible ramps, new transit shelter, sidewalk, grading and drainage plans, and landscape plan for the property with many site challenges.

Fairview Elementary School Playground and Path

The 3-acre school yard is designed around universal design principals including the needs of students with physical and sensory challenges. The master plan includes a looping accessible trail system connecting to several play areas with equipment that encourages group interaction. Other features include a deck with seating, bridges, a hill slide, sports field, court play, art wall, meadow, and sound garden. Opportunities for educational and sensory play will be provided along the path in future phases. The accessible path system was carefully designed to avoid impacting the existing large canopy trees and a rain garden captures stormwater runoff and provide learning opportunities for the students.

Asheville Fire Station

Current project working with a large design team for a new fire station on an urban infill site. Work includes a conceptual landscape plan meeting the City of Asheville’s landscape ordinance using native plants and including a raised vegetable garden.

Dreaming Earth Botanicals and Axeville

Prepared site plan for commercial expansion project for City approval of Unified Development Ordinance requirements. Plan included new parking lot, new sidewalks on two sides of corner property, retaining walls, grading and drainage plan, and planting plan.

Master Gardeners Demonstration Garden

The master plan for this 3.3-acre site includes an outdoor learning classroom and pavilion, accessible paths, perimeter trail, stormwater demonstration features, picnic area, a meadow, ancillary building, and a variety of demonstration gardens to teach the public and school children about various horticultural and environmental topics.
